PostSubject: SUBBED OR DUBBED   Wed Jan 14, 2009 8:12 am

Its gotta SUBBED i mean dubs have its advantages like you can eat while you watch and not really pay attention and I wouldnt mind it as much if the dubbing was actually good (execpt for Hell Girl the voice actress who dubbed ehr was amazing I fell inlove with that voice kyaa) they sound like well bad

besides when its subbed the reality is there you know its from japan well its just different and if you watch enough episodes you might just become fluent in japanese speaking only no writing I know i saw it happen so Im all for the SUBS

Definitely subbed. If it was dubbed, you don't think it's funny anymore. It would ruined the point of the anime. ^^

I prefer subbed but I do watch some dubbed. I think the reason is because I usually watch anime first in Japanese and I grow use to their voices and when I hear it in English it just sounds all wrong. =/

I watch animation for the love of animation. It is not about what country creates it that matters to me just that it is well done. I have tons of American animation in my collection as well as tons of Japanese animation.

Generally I like dubs. I want to focus on teh story and art and not focus on reading the subtitles. There are some really well done dubs (eg. Hellsing, Full Metal Panic!, Fruits Basket and Kodocha). In those examples, the dubs are better than the Japanese. In Fruits Basket, the Japenese voices are horrible and the English voices are fantastic. However, there are some anime in which the Japanese voice actors are better (eg. Perfect Girl Evolution).

I am definitely a dub fan.

BTW, watching programs in Japanese is not going to make anyone fluent. I have been taking Japanese for almost 2 years, I make certain to watch a certain amount of anime in Japanese and I am reading a manga in Japanese and I am still far from fluent. But I guess one can fantasize.

Ugh, dubs drive me crazy. I can't stand the way English voice actors butcher names, or the inflections that they use. Dialogue just sounds so much more natural in Japanese, and once I switched to Japanese, I could never switch back. Sub fan, all the way.

Dubbed is okay as long as the voices are good but to me most of the time, most voices don't fit the charachter at all. When it's subbed I like it a lot more and the voices actually seem fit for the charachter and actually sound good happy

Definitely SUBS! Wheter series, anime, movies, I'm always for the original language and the translations below. I mean, when you have different languages in one movie, how can you dub that? Just dub the main one and sub the others? Even if they're practically as much spoken. It's silly. Like, sometimes they change the original foreign languages, too. Fench becomes Italian because English was dubbed in french already, etc... Anyway, totally for subs.
Even if some dub works are pretty well done. I prefer having the original feeling.

I prefer subbed. When something is dubbed it ruins the whole thing because the voices do not match the characters whatsoever.

Subbed. I like the authenticity of it. I also like japanese voice actors more than american ones. They seem to bring out more of the raw emotion. The pronounciation of names seems less struggled, and have inflections based on the characters emotions.

I prefer subs. Don't get me wrong there are a few anime that have been dubbed successfully and I even have a few favorite voice actors, but most of the time it's a miss. Not only in the editing (which I understand is a necessity to match the mouth movements) but mostly in the inflection of the voices. Were it's usually lost the mmost is in comedic scenes.

I have to admit, I started watching anime with dubs, but when I started to get more and more into anime, I started watching subbed, and was much much better compared to dubs as they don't have that 'slang'

I'm not a huge fan of English dub in general. There are some shows that have decent to amazing dubs though, but they're a rarity.
